No better time than the now...

I've been meaning to write this for a while... No better time than the now!!

We are a Full Time RV family. Which means that we live full time in an RV. A year ago if you asked us if we would have thought it would be possible, we probably would have told you no. I was five months pregnant with our first little critter and our lease was coming up soon in September and we were looking for something bigger.

So how did we come to live in an RV which is a third of the size of our old apartment-not counting the basement? In the beginning of this year we were looking to buy a house, all the banks that I consulted told us that with our credit history, debt repayment history and debt to income ratio they wouldn't be able to give us a mortgage. It was pretty depressing.

Ken had been researching small homes ever since we got together (in fact before we got together he had been looking for a Class B RV to live in since he had to travel so much for his job). But then we met and as my husband says jokingly things took a turn for the worst (though not really). We conformed to what everyone else was doing, getting a place together, getting married having kids and were on our way to buy a house... when hospital bills, credit card debt, student loans got in the way.

Have you ever had something bad happen, like a break up, or break down of a car that turned out to be a good thing-basically serendipity. That's what happened to us. Instead of taking this as a rejection, it was an opportunity to fulfill what we had been discussing for a while. Living smaller.
So Ken had been researching smalls homes and we had been talking about them since we got together and could imagine ourselves living that kind of lifestyle. In fact it was one of our dreams, to shed materialism and gain more.... more love for life, more value, more experiences, more adventures.

So when we got our tax return we decided, lets get an RV. It would save us the cost of utilities an apartment, and we can get rid of all the stuff we don't need. So we bought one and looked for a place to park it. In May we finally found a place and have been living here since.... which comes with it's own probably but that's another post for another day. We've been living this lifestyle for around two months and I love it! I love living in an RV, I love the shared space, how everything has it's place, how upkeep is easy. But there are it's challenges too... but until next time...
